How to Get Access to a Client's Facebook Ad Account
There are two ways to do it: the manual partner request in Meta Business Manager, or one ClientInvite link your client clicks. This guide covers both.

The fast way: one ClientInvite link
Don't be that agency/freelancer who manually onboards clients by asking them to add you as a partner in Business Manager. Instead, use ClientInvite to automate your onboarding process and leave a lasting impression on your clients.
Generate Your Access Link
In your ClientInvite dashboard, select 'Facebook Ad Account' and generate your secure request link.
Send the Link to Your Client
Share the secure access link with your client via email, Slack, or anywhere else.
Client Authorizes Access
Your client logs into Facebook and approves the request. Access is granted automatically!
How to give Facebook Ad Account access manually in Meta Business Manager
If your client prefers to grant access the manual way (or you just need the steps to send them), here is the current partner flow. Your client will need admin access to the business portfolio that owns the ad account, and you'll need to send them your Business ID first. Sharing more than just the ad account? See the full guide to adding a partner to Meta Business Manager.
- 1
Get the agency's Business Portfolio ID
Ask your agency for their Meta Business Portfolio ID (also called a Business Manager ID). They can find it at business.facebook.com under Business settings, then Business info. It's a 15-17 digit number.
- 2
Open Business settings
Go to business.facebook.com/settings and log in. You need to be an admin of the business portfolio that owns the ad account.
- 3
Add a partner
In the left menu, click Users, then Partners. Click Add, then choose "Give a partner access to your assets".
- 4
Enter the partner's Business ID
Paste the agency's Business Portfolio ID from step 1 and click Next.
- 5
Choose the ad account and permission level
Select Ad accounts in the asset list, toggle on the ad account you want to share, and pick a permission level: View performance, Manage campaigns, or Full control. Click Save.
- 6
The agency assigns its own team
The ad account now appears in the agency's Business Manager, where they can assign their own team members without needing anything else from you.
Alternative: add a person instead of a partner
For freelancers without their own Business Manager, the client can instead go to Business settings → Users → People, click Add people, invite you by email, and assign the ad account with a permission level. You'll get an email invitation to accept. This ties access to your personal profile rather than your business, so most agencies prefer the partner method above.
Why agencies automate this instead
The manual flow means finding Business IDs, walking your client through six steps of Business Manager, and usually a screen-share when they get stuck. With ClientInvite, you send one branded link and your client approves everything in a couple of clicks — the same flow works for Pixels, Pages, Instagram, Google, and Shopify. See ClientInvite pricing or how it stacks up as a Leadsie alternative.

In Meta Business Manager, a client can grant a partner View performance, Manage campaigns, or Full control over an ad account. When requesting access via ClientInvite, you choose between view (audit) or manage (admin) permissions when you create the link.
When you share your request link, the client clicks it to authorize access via Facebook's secure Graph API. The Facebook Ad Account access is granted directly to your Facebook Business Manager in seconds without manual invitations or partner connections.
No. Neither the manual partner method nor ClientInvite ever requires a password. Your client logs into their own Facebook account and approves the access request themselves — ClientInvite never sees or stores client passwords.
Go to business.facebook.com, open Business settings, then click Business info. Your Business Portfolio ID is the 15-17 digit number at the top. You only need this for the manual partner method — with ClientInvite, your client never has to ask you for it.
Yes, of course. The client retains full control and can revoke access granted through ClientInvite at any time directly within their Facebook Ad Account settings or Business Manager. You also keep access to the asset if you cancel your ClientInvite subscription.
You can request access to all of the assets in your client's Facebook Business Manager. This includes the Meta Pixel, Facebook Ad Account, Facebook Page, Instagram account, and Meta Catalog. You can also request access to many other platforms, such as Google and Shopify.
